Zipp Speed Weaponry is a bicycle component manufacturing company dedicated to continuous product and process improvement in the bike industry. They are located in Indianapolis Indiana, USA; they are part of the SRAM group of Chicago IL. The US made Zipp Wheels are found under three Wheelset brands; the 60 Clincher, Firecrest®, and Firestrike™.
The 60 Clincher US made Bike Rims have an aluminum hub shell with stainless steel spokes and a carbon rim with aluminum brake surface and tire bed. The Wheelset is precision mounted so it requires no load adjustment, and priced at $675 front and $825 rear. They are made for “the road racer, the triathlete or gran fondo enthusiast who simply loves to ride”.
The Firecrest®, and Firestrike™ brands are built with the US made ultralight 88 and 188 front and rear hubs. The cartridge style hub bearings are made by a family-owned Swiss bearing manufacturer. Unique to Zipp Wheels are the technology implemented into the currently US made hub housings; “To maintain the high precision of Zipp hubs, we use electrical discharge machining, a specialized process that cuts with an extremely thin high-voltage wire submerged in water. EDM allows us to machine 50% harder materials at tolerances 20 times greater than those allowed by traditional machining and heat-treating”.
