Over the years we have kept in contact with Leatherman Tool Group; this is the information we have accumulated.
“Our Products are assembled and substantially made in the USA of US and foreign components. We build and manufacture all of our tools in Portland, Oregon.
California state law says that any product with even a small part of foreign content cannot be labeled “Made in USA” if it is sold in California; it requires that 100% of the parts in a product, no matter how significant, be made in the USA.
Since California is a large market for us, we decided to change our tools to ensure we comply with the law. The foreign content of our tools is very, very small. A few components are sent to Europe or Mexico. Everything else regarding our tools – including the design, the steel, the component forming, most finishing and sharpening, and all assembly of the Multi-Tool, Pocket Tool, and Keychain Tool is done in the USA.
Leatherman has over 400 employees in Portland, Oregon and no one has ever been laid off due to the sourcing of foreign processing. Maintaining our high quality standards influences all of our decisions.”

Just bought the Wingman from Walmart. I cannot find the phrase Made in USA in the box or on the tool. Whats Up is it made in the USA or not? I was expecting something to the effect of “Assembled in the USA of foreign and US parts after reading your article!
It does say Oregon Proud on the outside of the box.
Jimmy,
There’s no US law that requires products sold in the U.S. to be marked or labeled Made in USA. More Info. Here on compliance standards & meanings.
