Cone Denim, America’s oldest denim mill, was at one time a supplier of Denim Fabric for Levi’s Jeans. Today, Levi’s is no longer US made and the only denim produced by Cone in the USA, is their Selvage Denim. The Selvage Denim is made of material woven on American Draper X3 fly shuttle looms.
What is Selvedge Denim
Selvedge Denim (generally cotton) is a coarse twilled cloth or fabric that has a finished non fraying edge along the length of woven fabric. Other than cotton, Cone Denim is manufacturing a new type of Selvedge Denim which is woven from the fibers sourced from discarded plastic bottles and packaging; it is called Natural or Raw Denim. The Raw Denim color is achieved through a sorting process; the plastics are separated by shade and then spun into synthetic threads bypassing the dyeing procedure.
Note: Cone Denim manufactures the Raw or Natural Denim in their US, Mexico and China facilities. Always verify the Denim you wish to purchase is American made.
