Alchemy builds handmade bicycles out of carbon, stainless steel, and titanium right here in the USA. Their mountain bikes feature an exclusive Sine Suspension design, providing a quality ride on every type of trail and gravel.
“We have been hand-making frames in the US since the beginning, going on 10 years this year. We brought in composites manufacturing shortly after launching Alchemy and brought that process in house about 6 years ago. We design all of our frames in CAD and SolidWorks, then make the molds for carbon bicycle frames in our CNC machine. Once the molds are made and the layup kits are designed, we are then ready to cut carbon. Our carbon comes in 100lb rolls of uni-directional fiber, meaning all of the fibers run in the same direction. This allows us to lay the carbon in our proprietary way to create the unique ride quality that Alchemy is known for. It also allows us to create pieces of art with our layup schedule.
Once the carbon is cut, it goes into layup for molding. We inlay the carbon into both halves of the mold, lay in a rubber bladder, close the mold, then inflate the rubber bladder while simultaneously heating the mold under pressure. This process cures the carbon, creating the tubes. From there, the tubes are mitered into form, put in the jig, which creates the frame. The tube junctions are then over-wrapped with single layers of carbon fiber. This process secures the tubes together, helps determine the ride quality, and also makes a really nice end look.
After another curing process and hours of sanding, the frame is ready for paint. We have stock paint schemes for each model, but we can also provide a custom bicycle paint job for almost every frame.
